Communication speed constraints

No constraints

Limited
(when amount of communications in a month exceeds 7 GB) [4]
For WiMAX2+ in high speed mode:

  • No speed constraints for up to 25 months [2] [3]
  • No speed constraints ever with subscription to au Smart Value mine [3]

Limited
(when amount of communications in a month exceeds 7 GB) [4]

Monthly charge (tax included)

¥3,880/month for up to 25 months, with WiMAX2+ Cost-Saving Discount High speed plus area optional usage charge [5]: + ¥1,055/month (for months in which it is used)
  • [1]
WiMAX: As of the end of May 2013.
WiMAX2+: As of the end of October 2013. By the end of March 2014, service will begin rolling out to major cities (some areas) on the Higashi-Meihan Expressway (according to the UQ Communications Inc. plan as of October 2013). 4G LTE: As of the end of August 2013.

[Notes regarding exemption from speed constraints]

  • [2]
This exemption applies when a contract is signed at the same time that Wi-Fi WALKER WiMAX2+ is purchased.
  • [3]
This exemption does not apply to the speed constraints that are imposed when the amount of communications using WiMAX2+ in high speed mode exceeds 7 GB in a month. KDDI will give customers advance notice in the event of any changes. Also, if the maximum communications speed for sending and receiving for WiMAX2+ and 4G LTE in high speed plus area mode is reduced to 128 kbps after exceeding the 7 GB monthly limit on the total amount of communications, the speed of WiMAX2+ communications in high speed mode is also reduced to 128 kbps even if high speed mode is reselected. (The ineligibility for exemption from the communication speed constraints imposed on high speed mode when the amount of WiMAX2+ communications exceeds 7 GB in a month applies to the full period.)
  • [4]
To prevent network congestion, communication speed constraints are scheduled to apply to WiMAX2+ depending on the amount of communications used (1 GB or more over a 3-day period), starting in April 2015. KDDI will give customers advance notice of any such changes.
  • [5]
When high speed plus area mode is selected and communications are performed, the optional usage charge is applied (no application is required).
  • *
For information about other restrictions, see "Notes on communication speed constraints" below.
  • *
KDDI provides the WiMAX and WiMAX2+ service using UQ Communications Inc.'s wireless infrastructure.
  • *
The listed communication speeds are the maximum speeds based on the technical standards. The actual speeds may fall short of the maximum for various reasons, including the customer's communication environment and traffic conditions.
  • *
All of the described services are best-effort services. For more information about each service area, check the UQ WiMAX website.
■ Notes on communication speed constraints
  • If the total amount of communications using WiMAX2+ and 4G LTE exceeds 7 GB in a month, the maximum communications speed for sending and receiving until the end of that month will be 128 kbps. (The communication speed constraint will be removed on the first day of the following month.) If you subscribe to the Extra Option, no speed constraints are applied when WiMAX2+ and 4G LTE exceed 7 GB in a month. (After exceeding 7 GB, a charge of ¥2,625 (tax included) is applied for each 2 GB used.)
  • If the communication charges become high, service may be suspended temporarily. In addition, to prevent network congestion, a limit will be placed on the 4G LTE communications speed for a whole day if the total amount of communications using WiMAX2+ and 4G LTE exceed 1 GB over the three most recent days. (This constraint still applies even if you are subscribed to the Extra Option.) Furthermore, starting in April 2015, one-day speed constraints are scheduled to apply to WiMAX2+ communications.
1. Price plan
