KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takashi Tanaka) and Global Brain Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasuhiko Yurimoto) will invest [1] in Origami Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yoshiki Yasui) through the KDDI Open Innovation Fund and commence a business partnership with Origami Inc..
Today, the way people enjoy shopping is changing with the proliferation of smartphones and spread of SNS. New models of e-commerce services utilizing social media are also emerging one after another.
Through the business partnership with Origami Inc., KDDI will establish a new e-commerce platform with Origami Inc. and offer a new consumption style in which online shops and regular retail locations are utilized in combination.
As the first step of the business collaboration with Origami Inc., the au ID login function and address entry support function will be implemented within the Origami service. For au users this significantly simplifies the entire process from member registration, using the customer's auID, to the entry of shipping information when finalizing the purchase, which caters to easier, stress-free shopping on Origami. KDDI will in the future actively support the expansion of the Origami business, specifically through the introduction of au Simple Payment Service, joint shops that take advantage of KDDI's corporate network, and brand development.
KDDI will assist in the development of companies that provide new added value to customers through the KDDI Open Innovation Fund, which supports up-and-coming venture companies.
