Adoption of KDDI Green Plan 2017-2030

1. Overview of KDDI Green Plan 2017-2030

  • (1)

    Climate Action

    • 7% reduction in CO2 emissions in FY2030 compared to FY2013 for KDDI (in Japan, non-consolidated) [1]
    • Upgrading to highly energy-efficient data centers in Japan and abroad [2]
    • Contributions to reductions in society's CO2 emissions by providing KDDI's information and communication technology (ICT) services
  • (2)

    Creating a Recycling-Oriented Society

    • Maintain zero emissions from retired telecommunication facilities [3]
    • Maintain material recycling rate of 99.8% for used mobile phones [4]
  • (3)

    Conservation of Biodiversity

    • Active promotion of initiatives using ICTs to conserve ecosystems

Note:

  • [1]
KDDI's target CO2emission reduction of 7% compared to FY2013 matches the 7% industry target in Japan's national Climate Action Plan. In order to achieve this target, KDDI will make use of various approaches to reduce CO2emissions, including the use of renewable energy.
  • [2]
To date, KDDI's data centers in Japan and abroad have taken various approaches to save energy depending on circumstances at each country location, with the following achievements:
TELEHOUSE LONDON Docklands North Two (PUE* 1.16), and TELEHOUSE TOKYO Tama 3 (PUE 1.31)
    • PUE (power usage effectiveness) is a measure of power efficiency in data center and other IT related facilities.
  • [3]
Zero emissions are defined as a final disposal rate of 1% or less.
  • [4]
This includes reuse as raw material by processes including melting of waste materials.
