No.2015-014
January 19,2015
KDDI and Okinawa Cellular announce that, beginning February 2, 2015, they will begin offering a new "Upgrade Program," which will enable customers who have been using eligible au mobile phone models for at least 18 months to have their outstanding monthly payment balance waived when changing to a new model. [1] [2] This program will make it easier for customers to change to the latest models every 18 months.
With this upgrade purchase support program, customers who purchase specified models, who subscribe to the Upgrade Program (300 yen/month (excluding tax)), and who purchase their phone through an installment contract (24 months), can change to a new model after just 18 months of use, with any outstanding monthly payment balance waived for the previous device.
The monthly charge for the program will be refunded for the number of months between the 19th month, when the right to waiver of the outstanding monthly payment balance occurs, through the 25th month, when installment payments end, based on the number of months that have passed before that right is exercised by the customer. [3]
Also, the all monthly charges for the program will be refunded if the customer changes models without exercising the right to a waiver of any outstanding monthly payment balance, or in the 26th month or later, after installment payments have been completed. [3]
In addition, as part of the Junior Smartphone Plan for children of elementary school age or younger, the Upgrade Program (Junior) will be offered first as a free benefit beginning in the latter half of January (with the release of the miraie model).
Note that eligible models and program details may be subject to change.
