Free Wi-Fi on Mt. Fuji for Foreign Visitors to Japan!

KDDI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takashi Tanaka; hereafter KDDI) and Wire and Wireless Co.,Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Otsuka; hereafter Wi2) will provide a free public wireless LAN service (hereafter Wi-Fi) for foreign visitors to Japan at Mt. Fuji's summit and the Gotemba Trail New 5th Station (Gotemba-shi, Shizuoka).

As of July 1, 2015, the Wi-Fi service supports TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi, which has begun providing commercial services, enabling foreign visitors to Japan to automatically connect to Wi-Fi by just downloading the app and agreeing to the terms of use. The service will also implement one of its features - content information distribution to apps. Using this feature we will deliver useful information for climbing Mt. Fuji and about nearby tourism to foreign visitors via Wi-Fi.

We will also continue the au Wi-Fi SPOT service, which has been provided since 2014.

KDDI and Wi2 will continue their efforts to stimulate tourism and improve customer convenience by providing a comfortable internet environment through the use of free public wireless LAN services for Mt. Fuji, which welcomes many visitors from Japan and around the world.

1. How the free public wireless LAN service is provided

    If using TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi
    Foreign visitors to Japan can connect to more than 60,000 Wi-Fi SPOTS free of charge by downloading the TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi app and agreeing to the terms of use.
    Also, by entering the premium code distributed at the Mt. Fuji Trail Station in the Gotemba Trail New 5th Station, the app will be upgraded and more than 200,000 Wi-Fi SPOTS nationwide will become available for 2 weeks.

    If using a one-time ticket (1day)
    By presenting a passport at the Mt. Fuji Trail Station, users receive a Wi2 300 One-Time (1day) ticket that allows them to use more than 200,000 Wi-Fi SPOTS nationwide, including the one at the Mt. Fuji summit, free of charge.

We also provide a Wi2 300 service for customers in Japan [1].

2. Availability

  • The One-Time (1day) ticket and the premium code for foreign visitors to Japan is available from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Wi-Fi use is available during Mt. Fuji Trail Station open hours (6:00 AM to 5:00 PM).

What is the TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi service?

The Mt. Fuji Trail Station is a space constructed on the Mt. Fuji Gotemba Trail where Mt. Fuji climbers, hikers, and tourists can rest and interact. It serves as a place to broadcast tourist, climbing, and lodge information, as well as conduct educational activities on safe climbing and environmental conservation.
