New Upgrade Program Makes it Easier to Purchase the Latest Mobile Phone Models

1. About the Upgrade Program

  • (1)

    Overview
    Customers who subscribe to the Upgrade Program (300 yen/month (excluding Tax)) when purchasing an eligible model, and who purchase their phone through an installment contract (24 months), can change to a new model after 18 months of use, at which time any outstanding monthly payment balance for the previous device will be waived.

    • <1>
      If changing to a new model in the 19th month
      • Outstanding monthly payment balance for the previous model will be waived.
    • <2>
      If the customer does not exercise this right by changing models in the 19th month, but does so in any month prior to the 25th month, when installment payments end:
      • Any outstanding monthly payment balance for the previous device will be waived; and
      • Program charge will be refunded for the number of months between the occurrence of the right to waiver and the month in which the right was exercised. [2]
    • <3>
      If the customer changes models without exercising the right to a waiver of the outstanding monthly payment balance, or changes models in the 26th month or later, when installment payments have already ended:
      • The full amount [1] of program charges will be refunded. [2]

      A maximum of 48 months.

      Program charges paid for the model prior to the model change will be refunded as a charge (deposit) to the customer's au WALLET card. Program charges will not be refunded in the event of a model change within 18 months, if customer membership in this program is cancelled, or if the phone line in question is transferred, temporarily suspended, or canceled.

    Program charge
    300 yen/month (excluding tax)
  • (4)
    Subscription conditions
    • Upgrade Program application made at the time of purchase of an eligible model under an installment contract (24 months).
    • Subscription in one of the following plans: Flat-rate Data 2/3/5/8/10/13; Flat-rate Data 2 (V)/3 (V)/5 (V)/8 (V)/10 (V)/13 (V); LTE Flat; or LTE Flat (V).

    Conditions for application of benefits
    • Model change after use of an eligible device for 18 months or more;
    • Continued subscription to the Upgrade Program after changing models;
    • Previous model will be collected upon changing models. [3]

      Collection is conditional upon the previous model being in working condition, with no defects, water leaks or damage.

    How to apply
    Applications accepted at any store carrying au products.

    Starting date
    Applications accepted beginning February 6, 2015.

2. About the Upgrade Program (Junior)

  • (1)
    Overview
    Children of elementary school age or younger who subscribe to the Junior Smartphone Plan when purchasing the miraie model, and who purchase their phone through an installment contract (36 months), can change to a new model after 18 months of use, at which time any outstanding monthly payment balance for the miraie model previously used will be waived.

    • Provided as a free benefit of the Junior Smartphone Plan.

    Subscription conditions
    • Application for the Junior Smartphone Plan made at the time of purchase of the miraie model through an installment contract (36 months).

    • Continued subscription to the Upgrade Program after changing models.
