KDDI and Okinawa Cellular have announced plans to release the AQUOS SERIE mini, a compact smartphone that is easy to operate with one hand, which features a 4.5-inch IGZO display, support for au VoLTE, carrier aggregation, and WiMAX 2+, and a host of advanced features. The new model is scheduled to be released in late January 2015.

The AQUOS SERIE mini is equipped with a 4.5-inch IGZO display that boasts low power consumption. The EDGEST design reduces the borders around the display on three sides, resulting in a compact, 63-mm wide body that is easy to operate with one hand.

This model is also equipped with emopa, a function that enables the device to respond to the user and engage in friendly, human-like conversation using its voice and the screen. The emopa function, which Sharp developed especially for smartphones, is based on the Kokoro Engine artificial intelligence incorporated in other home electronics manufactured by Sharp. This function analyzes information about the user's current location and status to provide value-added data and other information that is helpful in the user's daily activities.

Furthermore, the camera is equipped with the advanced functions of the previous AQUOS SERIE mini SHL24 model, making it easy to capture beautiful images. The RealTime HDR function makes it easy to take clear pictures even in dim lighting. With the Background Blur function, which creates a composite from three simultaneously captured images of the foreground, middle ground and background, the user can adjust the blur to achieve the desired look. In addition, sets of continuous images taken with the Burst function can be spliced together and played back in a stop motion style that resembles flip book animation.

Users can also choose to decorate the AQUOS SERIES mini with a variety of cases and covers that are available in the au +1 collection of official au accessories, including covers that were created in collaboration with the popular Disney Pass service.

The AQUOS SERIE mini model will go on display from January 20, 2015 at au SHINJUKU (Shinjuku, Tokyo), au NAGOYA (Sakae, Nagoya), au OSAKA (Umeda, Osaka), and au FUKUOKA (Tenjin, Fukuoka).
