KDDI and Okinawa Cellular have announced plans to start releasing smartphones and tablets that support two next-generation communication networks. In addition to being compatible with carrier aggregation, which is supported by next-generation high-speed LTE-Advanced technology, the devices will support WiMAX 2+. By automatically selecting the network based on the customer's communication environment, the service will ensure comfortable high-speed data communications. [1]
In addition, customers using a 4G LTE smartphone or tablet that supports WiMAX 2+ will be able to use WiMAX 2+ service free of charge, with a subscription to the LTE NET or LTE NET for DATA Internet connection service. [2]
Carrier aggregation technology enables LTE data communications across multiple frequency bands simultaneously. By combining data received in different frequency bands, communication speeds of up to 150Mbps can be achieved. WiMAX 2+, which is a high-speed communication service provided by UQ Communications Inc., enables a maximum receiving speed of 110Mbps.
