On October 2, 2013, KDDI and Okinawa Cellular started introducing the next-generation IEEE 802.11ac [1] wireless LAN standard for the au Wi-Fi SPOT public wireless LAN service, which provides comfortable Internet communications to au smartphone users at train stations, airports, cafes, and other locations outside the home. The standard has been introduced at several Doutor Coffee Shop (3 locations) and Excelsior Caffe (2 locations) chain outlets, and will later be expanded to a variety of other locations with high customer demand.
Using this standard, au smartphones that support 11ac can perform high-speed communications at a maximum speed of 433 Mbps [2], enabling users to enjoy more comfortable Internet communications.
