1. About KDDI SD-Network Platform

    Overview

    KDDI SD-Network Platform delivers network virtualization with Software Defined technology, created after installing a dedicated device in the customer's office. It resolves customer problems such as increased traffic, network quality degradation and security management, providing customers with a comfortably-usable network connection.

    Features

    • 1.

      Feature packages allow customer to start small [4]

      The customer can select or change the package of product features depending on their situation. For example, they can start with router function and traffic visibility, and then add traffic control by application if they judge it necessary after viewing their traffic.

    • 2.

      Quick deployment on an existing VPN service and Internet connection

      The customer can build an overlay network without additional physical circuits by just installing the dedicated device into their existing VPN and Internet connection. When opening a new office, mobile Internet can be used as a temporary network for quick deployment.

    Key functions

      SD-WAN

      • Multipath control
        The traffic path for each application can be controlled depending on intended use and network quality. For example, when the quality of a path drops due to traffic congestion, the traffic can be automatically switched to an alternative path in good health.

      • Local breakout
        The customers can access to specific public cloud services through the Internet directly from their office, distributing traffic and providing a pleasant cloud-use experience.

      • Segmentation [4]
        Multiple logically-isolated networks can be created on a single physical channel. This enables centralized operation of the networks for group companies that have differing operation policies.

    • 2.

      UTM function [4]

      • Next-generation firewall
        A security gateway which can be controlled not only by IP address and port, but also by application. Combined with local breakout, it can be used to secure Internet traffic from a local office.

    Service fee

    From ¥10,000/month per dedicated device

    • This is the fee for a minimum configuration comprising router function, traffic visibility and send-back maintenance. Monitoring etc., will require additional fees. In addition, there is a basic fee of ¥20,000 per contract.
    • All prices mentioned are exclusive of tax.

    Starting date for applications

    November 1, 2017

    • For regions outside Japan, applications are scheduled to begin from February 2018.

2. About KDDI Security Cloud

    Overview

    KDDI Security Cloud is a cloud proxy service that centrally summarizes and visualizes Web/email and Cloud connections on the Internet, enhancing the protection of confidential data on cloud services. It provides secure and comfortable use of cloud services through data protection and measures for dealing with shadow IT.

    In combination with the local breakout function that KDDI SD-Network Platform provides, KDDI Security Cloud enables more secure access to cloud applications from each customer office, directly via the Internet.
    Moreover, the service is provided in collaboration with Symantec (Symantec Japan head office: Minato Ward, Tokyo, CEO: Yukinori Haryu), a global leader in the security market, enabling customers to build a secure communications environment.

    Symantec Corporation is a global company that leads in the cyber security industry and provides support to companies, government agencies and private individuals in the protection of important data stored in a variety of locations.

    Function

    • SaaS Security (CASB: Cloud Application Security Broker)
      Provides visibility and usage control of cloud applications as a means of dealing with shadow IT security risks.
    • Web Security
      Provides a sandbox function when using a website, to respond to a wide range of threats, from ransomware to targeted attacks. Also provides URL filtering and anti-virus functions.
    • E-mail Security
      Provides sandbox function for e-mail, in addition to anti-spam and anti-virus functions.
