About Upgrade Program EX

1. Overview

To make it easier for customers to purchase au smartphones [1], with this new upgrade program, customers who change to a new model in or after the 25th month [2] will have the outstanding monthly payment balance waived, on condition that the previous model was purchased through an installment contact (48 months) [4].

2. Program charge

¥390/month (non-taxed) x 24 months

3. Starting date

July 14, 2017

4. Eligible models

5. Benefit

Payment of installments from the month following the model change is waived (for up to 24 months)

6. Subscription conditions

  • (1)
    Purchase of an eligible 4G LTE smartphone under a KDDI individual credit purchase brokerage or an individual installment purchase agreement (48 months in either case [4])
  • (2)
    Subscription to either au Pitatto Plan or au Flat Plan

7. Conditions for application of benefit

  • (1)
    Model change after use of an eligible device for 12 months or more [2]
  • (2)
    Continued subscription [6] to Upgrade Program EX after changing models
  • (3)
    Previous model is surrendered upon changing models

8. Guarantee of point restoration

If the customer changes models without using the benefit, an amount equivalent to the program charges paid will be refunded as WALLET points in the month following the model change (provided that conditions (1) and (2) for application of the benefit are satisfied).

    Customers can also change to a new model between the 13th month and the 24th month by upfront payment of the program charges (¥390 x the number of months remaining until the 25th month (non-taxed)). In this case, the installment payments up to the 25th month must be paid, but no further payment is required after that.

    If the customer changes to a new model in the 25th month and uses the benefit

    Payment in 48 installments cannot be selected when purchasing iPhone 7/iPhone 7 Plus/iPhone 6s/iPhone 6s Plus/iPhone SE/iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus/iPhone 5s/iPhone 5c/iPhone 5.

    The previous device must be surrendered when changing to a new model using this benefit.

    Not applicable if customer membership in this program is cancelled at the end of the month following the model change
  • Customers can only subscribe to this program when purchasing an eligible model. If customer membership in the program is cancelled, the customer cannot re-subscribe to the program until the next time he or she purchases a new eligible model.
  • The program benefit does not apply if the customer pays the outstanding installment payment balance in one go.
  • If the customer cancels membership in Upgrade Program EX, changes to an ineligible rate plan or flat-rate data service, or transfers, suspends or cancels the au mobile phone contract, the program benefit and point restoration guarantee will not apply.
  • If the total amount paid for program charges exceeds the outstanding installment payment balance to be waived, the difference will be refunded as WALLET points.
