KDDI to launch au International Calling FLAT, offering voice calls to 23 countries and territories for a flat monthly fee

1. Overview

The au International Calling FLAT is an optional service that enables customers to make up to 50 international voice calls [1], each up to 15 minutes long, for a flat monthly fee. If a voice call is longer than 15 minutes, a separate calling charge of ¥20/30 seconds (tax exempt) is applied to the portion that exceeds 15 minutes.
In addition, after 50 calls are made during a month, a ¥300 charge will be applied for each additional call up to 15 minutes long, with an additional charge of ¥20/30 seconds thereafter.

    The flat rate does not apply to calls that the customer makes or receives while overseas, calls that are made using the 001 prefix when subscribed to the 001 International Mobile Talk service, SMS transmissions, calls to satellite phones or ship satellite phones, or calls to phone numbers separately determined by KDDI.

2. Application requirements

The service will be available to customers with a 4G LTE smartphone (or 4G LTE mobile phone) and a subscription to Kakeho (Unlimited Calling Plan) or Super Kakeho (Unlimited Calling Plan S).

  • This includes V and VK plans.
  • Customers with a subscription to Kakeho (Unlimited Calling Plan) for 3G mobile phones are not eligible.

3. Countries and territories covered by the service (23 total)

10 countries and territories in Asia China (excluding Macau), Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Nepal
13 countries and territories in Europe and the Americas Brazil, Peru, USA (excluding Alaska), Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Guam, United Kingdom, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden
  • This refers to the areas that will be covered when the service is launched (March 2016).

  • The service will apply starting in the month following the month of application. If you cancel the service in the middle of a month, calculation on a prorated basis is not applied and the flat rate is incurred.

6. Launch date

March 2016

  • Applications will be accepted starting on February 10, 2016.
