From November 2015, KDDI will participate in the OpenID Foundation [1], the OpenID standardization organization, as a board member.
OpenID is a standard specification mainly used for ID authentication linkages between web services. OpenID enables you to log in to various services provided by different companies using one ID, and is adopted in web sites, apps, smartphones, and a variety of other services by many companies. The OpenID Foundation is an organization that develops the OpenID standard specification and promotes its growth.

KDDI provides au ID complaint with OpenID. au ID is used by many customers in content services, such as au Smart Pass, au WALLET Market, and au Simple Payment, as well as other various services, such as au WALLET Prepaid Card and au WALLET Credit Card. In October 2015, the number of au IDs in use broke the 25-million mark.
Nat Sakimura, Chairman of the OpenID Foundation, had this to say about KDDI's board membership.
"What motivated us to ask KDDI to join the OpenID Foundation, the OpenID standardization organization, as a board member was the acclaim that KDDI garnered for their business success using tens of millions of au IDs and their technological prowess that seamlessly provides a wide variety of services on smartphones."
KDDI will continue to proactively contribute in the standardization and promotion of OpenID as a board member of the OpenID Foundation, and continue to offer ideas that enrich customers' lives and communication through communications technology.
