Provision of Wi-Fi to foreign tourists for free at Mt. Fuji

KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo: President, Takashi Tanaka) and Wire and Wireless Co.,Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo: President, Koji Otsuka, hereinafter referred to as Wi2) will provide a public wireless LAN service at Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION, which is held at the Gotemba new fifth station, to support stimulation of the Mt. Fuji Gotemba route in collaboration with Gotemba city in Shizuoka Prefecture, starting on July 18, 2014.
In addition, a digital coupon will be distributed to the tourists using au Wi-Fi SPOT with their au Android (TM) smartphone around Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION during the provision period. The digital coupon will be exchanged for a commemorative gift (towel handkerchief) manufactured by the NPO Nozomi Workshop (Gotemba city in Shizuoka Prefecture).

1. Overview

(1) Public wireless LAN service

The first 3,000 foreign tourists will receive a Wi2 300 One-Time (3 days) ticket for free by showing their passport at the information booth in Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION. The ticket will be available for 3 days at all the Wi-Fi SPOTs offered by Wi2. Entering the ID and password on the ticket will allow the tourists to use Wi-Fi high-speed data communication.

Tourists from Japan will receive Wi2 300. [1]

  • au smartphone users will be able to use the service as au Wi-Fi SPOT. [2]

KDDI will work to stimulate tourism and improve convenience for tourists by offering a comfortable Internet environment via a public wireless LAN at Mt. Fuji where a lot of tourists come from home and abroad.

(2) Commemorative gift

If tourists obtain a digital coupon (a commemorative gift exchange coupon) with their au Android (TM) smartphone [3] and show the digital coupon at the information booth in Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION during the provision period, they will receive a commemorative towel handkerchief on a first-come and first-served basis [4].
The towel handkerchiefs are manufactured by the NPO Nozomi Workshop (Gotemba city in Shizuoka Prefecture) where disabled people work.
Accessing au Wi-Fi SPOT around Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION will automatically distribute the digital coupon.

2. Provision period

July 18, 2014 to September 7, 2014

  • Free Wi-Fi tickets for foreign tourists and towel handkerchiefs will be provided from 6 AM to 6 PM.
    Wi-Fi will be available during opening hours of Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION (from 5 AM to 7 PM).

Mt. FUJI TRAIL STATION offers a place for tourists who come to the Gotemba Trail Station at Mt. Fuji for climbing, hiking, or sightseeing to rest or interact with people. This station provides sightseeing information, climbing and mountain lodges information, and engages in safe climbing and environmental conservation activities and other educational activities.
