KDDI and Okinawa Cellular have announced plans to release the TORQUE smartphone, a tough model with an unprecedented level of durability to withstand the harshest of environments, in early August 2014.
The TORQUE smartphone is compliant with MIL-STD-810G military equipment performance standards defined by the US Department of Defense. The device satisfied 11 test criteria to demonstrate excellent durability performance. In addition to maintaining previous levels of resistance to water, dust, and impact, the device demonstrated the ability to retain its functionality after 24 hours of exposure to salt fog followed by 24 hours of drying, as well as after 10 days of exposure to a high-humidity environment.
Furthermore, the smartphone is equipped with features that make it easy to use in a wide range of situations. For example, the touch panel display can be operated while it is wet, or while the user is wearing gloves. In addition, the device features dual speakers that can deliver more than 100 dB (3 KHz) of sound, and it incorporates Kyocera's unique Smart Sonic Receiver (R) technology, which uses sound and vibration to transmit the caller's voice to the user's ear, making it easier to hear even in noisy environments.
In addition, the device can be connected via Bluetooth to Casio G-Shock smartwatches, which are popular for their toughness, providing an even greater level of convenience with functions such as incoming call notifications and search capabilities.
