KDDI and Okinawa Cellular have announced plans to start releasing smartphones and tablets that support two next-generation communication networks. In addition to being compatible with carrier aggregation, which is supported by next-generation high-speed LTE-Advanced technology, the devices will support WiMAX 2+. By automatically selecting the network based on the customer's communication environment, the service will ensure comfortable high-speed data communications.
In addition, customers using a 4G LTE smartphone or tablet that supports WiMAX 2+ will be able to use WiMAX 2+ service free of charge, with a subscription to the LTE NET or LTE NET for DATA Internet connection service.
Carrier aggregation technology enables LTE data communications across multiple frequency bands simultaneously. By combining data received in different frequency bands, communication speeds of up to 150Mbps can be achieved. WiMAX 2+, which is a high-speed communication service provided by UQ Communications Inc., enables a maximum receiving speed of 110Mbps.
